Ozone Generator for Water Purification at a Recirculating Shrimp Farm in Thailand

Client Profile:

Located in Rayong Province, Thailand, this recirculating shrimp farm specializes in large-scale recirculating aquaculture of Litopenaeus vannamei. The facility has a total water volume of 8,000 m³ and an annual production capacity of 500 metric tons of shrimp, which are exported to the European Union and various countries in Southeast Asia. Prior to our collaboration, the client faced two major challenges: First, ammonia nitrogen and nitrite concentrations in the recirculating system exceeded standards, and the water was turbid, resulting in a shrimp survival rate of only 65%. This also failed to meet EU aquaculture water quality standards (Nitrite ≤0.1 mg/L), hindering product exports; Second, traditional water purification processes (activated carbon filtration) were cumbersome to operate and maintain, requiring frequent filter media replacement, resulting in high costs, and failing to completely eliminate harmful microorganisms such as Vibrio in the water.

Client Requirements:

  1. Purify the recirculating aquaculture water, controlling ammonia-nitrogen concentration below 0.2 mg/L and nitrite ≤ 0.1 mg/L, while eliminating harmful microorganisms such as Vibrio from the water;
  2. Replace traditional filtration processes to simplify operation and maintenance, reduce filter media replacement costs, and integrate with recirculating aquaculture systems;
  3. Provide CE-certified ozone generator equipment with an English-language interface and support for automated interlocking control;

Solution:

Based on the client’s recirculating aquaculture scale and export compliance requirements, we have customized a dedicated ozone generator water purification solution:

  1. Four CH-Y oxygen-source ozone generators (output: 100 g/h, CE-certified) are selected, equipped with ozone-water mixing devices and an online water quality monitoring system. These are installed at the filtration end of the recirculating aquaculture system, and the equipment’s operating interface supports English language switching;
  2. Implemented automated interlocking control to automatically adjust ozone dosage (dosage concentration: 0.3–0.5 mg/L) based on online water quality monitoring data, eliminating the need for manual supervision, and equipped with fault alarm functionality;

Implementation Results:

Two months after the equipment was put into operation, significant results were achieved:

  1. Water Quality Compliance: The ammonia-nitrogen concentration in the recirculating water stabilized below 0.15 mg/L, and the nitrite concentration was ≤0.08 mg/L, fully meeting EU aquaculture water quality standards. Water transparency improved by 60%, and the facility successfully passed the EU export water quality audit;
  2. Improved Survival Rate: The elimination rate of harmful microorganisms such as Vibrio in the water reached 99%. The survival rate of shrimp increased from 65% to 88%, resulting in an annual increase in shrimp production of 115 tons;
  3. Enhanced Reputation: Thanks to compliant water quality and stable production capacity, the client’s export volume increased by 30%, and long-term partnerships were established with multiple EU distributors.

Customer Reviews:

The ozone generator water purification solution has significantly improved the water quality of our recirculating shrimp culture, ensuring compliance with EU standards and greatly increasing the survival rate of shrimp. The equipment is stable and easy to operate, and the cross-border after-sales service is timely. We will continue to cooperate and recommend your products to other aquaculture bases.
